Somewhere in between the vast olive groves of rural Tunisia, an earthen home sits proudly, yet slowly decomposing. The walls crackle and lime chips fall from the ceiling at the swish of a cat tail or a flying rag. The project is beautiful, stunning even, but even its designer, Nordeen, has realized it is time for some renovations. Outside the home are several farm animals, Saddam the horse, chickens, neighborly dogs, the likes.
This is where I met my friend Barbara, a fellow traveler and enjoyer of life. We came to this farm for different reasons, I for an educational experience, she for a cultural exchange. We left the farm for what seemed like cabin fever, but was really the final stage of executing our feminist manifesto. Although we parted ways later in our adventures, I will be always grateful for her kindness, humor, and patience as I tried to navigate a country especially unique to me.
